This Generation Rules The Nation

Hellz just launched their Fall 1 Delivery Collection entitled Every Generation Needs It's Own Soundtrack. Inspired by Punk Rock Movie, a film by Don Letts documenting the UK Punk Rock movement in 1977, the collection is tough and strong without sacrificing looks and is full of things that I love like animal print leggings, quilted jackets, and tops that can be layered to create different looks. Definitely pushing the edgy image and electro punk hop aesthetic Hellz is known for. The stores you can cop these goods in Canada are below. Also, check out the rest of the pictures after the jump.

TBG @ Magic

HighSnobiety came through with the sneak peek of the TBG Holiday '08 at their Magic booth in Vegas. Once again, the line is continuing the fall theme of The Beautiful Boogeymen. Considering elections are creeping up on both sides of the border, the relevancy to this collection might sink in when we hear our leaders speak on the fears of the alternatives to their platforms. I'm just saying, another dope collection by our fam. And oh, isn't that Letterman dope?

According to Jonas

Nine years in the game and co-owner/founder of Lifted Research Grouptarget still has the passion. You can almost say that LRG is on top of the game, but Jonas Bevacqua is not done and gets it all out with KarmaloopTV about his perspective on where he is right now as an individual. Take notes kiddies, LRG is for the children.

I Think I Can Beat Bolt

Usain Bolt

Lots of hype going round these Olympics. Is it Phelps or Bolt? Considering the amount of nautically challenged folk in the office, the interest is in the yard-man Usain Bolt. I'm looking at this game on the web where you can actually race Bolt and possibly take his world record. We tried it and you might have to put in some training. To get in the race click here

Meet Karen David

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor just came out, due to The Mummy & The Mummy 2 coming in hard at the box office. Then there was the Scorpion King with WWE's The Rock! So now it only makes sense to get the prequel called The Scorpion King 2 involved with a new friend of Offshoot's, Karen David. This young lady has only exposed a sliver of her abilities as Layla in this straight to DVD action flick. She is a singer/songwriter that is prepping to make hearing her a habit. Take in the trailer to the DVD that dropped Tuesday this week.

DvyneArt @ Cartel

Jim Crow Couture inspired DvyneArt

Inspiration is a good thing, actually it's great. This Thursday we are celebrating inspiration @ Cartel. From the hands of Dion Fitzgerald of DvyneArt translated to 12 pieces canvas out of the inspiration of Jim Crow Couture. Here's a few words from Dion about this showcase:

This is a series of 12 portraits I was inspired to create upon pre-viewing the '08 TBG summer line. Their clothing is always provocative and like fine-art itself. The line dealt with themes of "Jim Crow" laws (laws that maintained a "separate but equal" type stance in which most Confederate states in the USA enacted after the abolishment of slavery).

I chose to create images that would challenge the viewer who considers themselves quite knowledgeable of this period and those that have no prior knowledge of this time. Working mainly from period photographs I wanted to bring a new vision to these well known images. One that simplified the composition yet created a deeper sense of the subjects. Drawing inspiration from the graphic nature of the Jim Crow Couture line, I felt it important to work with portraits and devise small surrealistic touches that would speak to a greater urgency and depression in the soul of a man, fighting only to be recognized as – a Man.

My mediums of choice rose mainly from working in acrylic paint on canvas but grew to include ink, paint marker, pencil, collage and aerosol. The approach to each piece was very individual and within the study of my human subjects their physical portraits in paint evolved. My use of black & white, I believe, added another layer of relevance to the struggle of my subjects within the confines of “Jim Crow’s” segregated laws.

Make no mistake; this series is about race, but mainly about the male African American experience of Jim Crow and the scars that have yet to heal. That said it is not an angry collection but one hopefully evoking of valid discussion.

So with that being said, swing thru Cartel(498 Queen St. W. @ Portland) this Thursday @ 7pm to check out the pieces from the TBG summer '08 collection & DvyneArt. P.S. let your art collectors know.

Funny??

Killa is crying because of this picture, does anyone else think this is funny? If so leave a comment..
